April 16, 2020

Dear SOTS Volunteers,

At 12:30 on April 16th we held a virtual town hall for all Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan volunteers. At that meeting Artistic Producer Will Brooks delivered the sad news that our 2020 season would be postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We at SOTS are heart-broken to have to deliver this news to all our stakeholders.  Below you can find the official announcement from Will on behalf of SOTS. Delivering this news to our volunteers is especially painful as we know the festival has become an annual tradition and summer highlight for many of you and we were so looking forward to having you at our re-developed site. We will continue to update our volunteers as we know more and I would like to personally thank each of your for your work and commitment to our summer festival. Now is a time to take care of yourselves as much as it is a time for us to take care of each other.

From all of us at SOTS – we wish you good health and look forward to gathering down by the river when official guidelines permit!

Operations Manager

PS - For those of you who worked winter hours, that time will be credited towards future vouchers!

Dear Friends of the Festival,

Due to the current Global Pandemic Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan has joined many of our partners and colleagues in the regrettable position of announcing the indefinite postponement of the 2020 Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival.   It remains our top priority to ensure the safety of our staff, patrons, volunteers and artists and we simply cannot accomplish that without taking this necessary action.  At this time, we don’t know when it will be possible to restart the festival.  While it is unlikely that we will be able to hold significant in person public programming prior to the summer of 2021 we will certainly try to avail ourselves of any opportunity that presents itself prior to that.  We have immense gratitude to our staff, artists, board, volunteers, donors, sponsors, funders and our core funders Saskatchewan Arts Board (funding through Sask Lotteries) and The City of Saskatoon, who have ensured the ongoing health of the festival countless times over our 35-year history, and they will indeed do that again during this time of uncertainty.  Construction continues, and we look forward to our new site being a community gathering space whenever that is again safe and possible.
