Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival (SOTS) has been producing the works of Shakespeare on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River since 1985. Call for Sound Designer - HAMLET (1 position)

Are you passionate about bringing stories to life through sound? Do you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment? If so, we invite you to join us at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan as our Sound Designer for our Mainstage production of Hamlet. Directed by Kayvon Khoshkam, this year’s production will transport you back in time. As the Sound Designer, you will play a pivotal role in creating immersive auditory experiences for one of Canada’s most unique outdoor Shakespeare festivals.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with directors and production team to conceptualize and execute sound designs that enhance the storytelling and atmosphere of the production.
• Design and compose musical/audio elements for the production as presented by the theatre.
• Support the setup of sound equipment, including microphones, speakers, and playback devices.
• Work within the festival’s speaker plot, with any additional elements to be discussed with the Production Manager.
• Provide a cue list to the Stage Manager prior to the first level session.
• Attend level and cueing sessions, as well as Q-Q and technical rehearsals, to review sound elements in the space.
• Make yourself available for short periods of time to attend both rehearsals and production meetings as requested by the Production Manager or the Show Director.
• Inform the theatre on an ongoing basis of any other design commitments which may impact upon the production.
• Other duties related to the design and performance of the production as assigned by the theatre.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 4 years experience in sound design and operation for live performances, preferably in outdoor or unconventional settings.
• Strong knowledge of sound design principles, techniques, and software tools.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate rehearsal and performance schedules.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Occupational Safety Guidelines for the Performing Arts industry and relevant Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Call for Costume Launderer - (1 Position)

Join our team at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, where we bring the works of William Shakespeare to life in an enchanting outdoor setting. Our festival celebrates the art of theatre amidst the beauty of nature, offering an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages. We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Costume Launderer to join our production team and ensure the impeccable maintenance of our costumes throughout the festival season.

As a Costume Launderer, you will play a vital role in preserving the integrity and presentation of our theatrical productions by maintaining the cleanliness and condition of our costumes. You will work closely with our Costume Designer, Production Manager, and
Head of Wardrobe to ensure that costumes are laundered, repaired, and ready for each performance, contributing to the seamless execution of our production.

• The laundering, repair, dry-cleaning, and maintenance to any wardrobe items through the season.
• Ensure all costumes are labeled appropriately.
• Prepare, and upkeep all appropriate show related paperwork and reporting as related to Wardrobe.
• Launder costumes according to specific instructions provided by the Costume Designer, taking into account fabric types, colors, and any special care requirements.
• Inspect costumes for damage, stains, or any other issues that may require repair or alteration.
• Perform minor repairs and alterations to costumes as needed, such as sewing on buttons, mending seams, and patching tears.
• Maintain organized inventory of costumes and accessories, tracking items as they are cleaned, repaired, and prepared for use.
• Collaborate with the Costume Designer and Production Team to ensure that costumes are ready for performances according to the production schedule
• Adhere to safety and hygiene protocols when handling costumes and laundering materials
• Other duties as required as assigned by the Production Manager

Qualifications 

• Previous experience in costume care, laundry, or a related field preferred
• Knowledge of fabric care and maintenance techniques, including washing, drying, and ironing
• Basic sewing skills for minor repairs and alterations
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and address costume issues effectively
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks according to production deadlines
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across different departments
