Staging the Future Campaign

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan has moved forward with a plan supported by our audience, partners and stakeholders to build a permanent base for our main stage tent and enhanced infrastructures for the festival!  This project has many benefits for your Shakespeare Festival, partner organizations in our area and all the citizens of Saskatoon.  It will:

  • Substantially increase the dedication of time and resources to the creative, production and rehearsal process by reducing our set up time by approximately 3-5 weeks
  • Expand opportunities to enjoy a longer festival season, which will generate positive economic impact for the organization and the city
  • Increase site accessibility, usership and enjoyment via year-round activity:  Route publicly accessible Meewasin Trail through the site and create partnership and site usage opportunities for additional groups, organizations and events
  • Include modern conveniences for performers and staff with off-season storage, a central pavilion to house dressing rooms, green room, and front of house staff area
  • Add services such as a concession, box office, and bar/kitchen
  • Provide, in partnership with the city, winterized, larger washrooms for the convenience of off-season users of the site and trail
  • Enhance safety and accessibility features like upgraded pathways and a drop-off loop
  • Include state-of-the-art LED lighting to really make the site sparkle
  • Include opportunities for future expansion

Making the site more accessible year-round for activities, user partners and the public just makes sense. At the same time it will support the “winter city strategy” of the City of Saskatoon. Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is working toward a transformed site for the 2020 season!
