General Auditions

Submission deadline for actors is no later than September 9 at Noon!

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan will be holding General Auditions for the 2020 season and beyond in Saskatoon September 23rd & 24th, 2019.  Please note those dates may change as venues are confirmed.  We are accepting resumes and headshots from actors interested in auditioning for our 2020 festival productions. For more info on our upcoming season please refer to our website www.shakespearesask.com.

With a mandate to celebrate Saskatchewan artists we are particularly interested in hearing from artists living in or with deep roots in Saskatchewan.  We also highly encourage diversity and gender parity in submissions and work to improve how we serve these voices.

Artists whose work is familiar to Artistic Producer Will Brooks are encouraged to submit and express interest but may not be required to audition.  Artists who have worked with the festival recently are always encouraged to get in touch to keep us informed of their particular artistic interests.

Please forward resumes and headshots in PDF format to ap@shakespearesask.com

Only those artists receiving an audition will be contacted.

Start date in May, exact dates TBA.

As noted the submission deadline for actors is no later than September 9 at noon but all artists are encouraged to get in touch earlier if possible.

Emerging Artist Program

Submission deadline is no later than September 13th at Noon!

For the past several years through the generous support of the Heather and David Foundation and the RBC Emerging Artist Program, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan has had the opportunity to engage in a program to hire acting students and recent graduates as part of our festival.

In 2019 we had 5 positions total: acting, stage management/technical theatre, admin/management, and assistant directing. In 2018 we were able to have 4 positions total in the areas of acting, stage management, wardrobe and directing. In 2017, 4 positions in production management, design, acting, and music. In 2016 we were able to have six positions total in the areas of acting, stage management, design, music, wardrobe, and technical theatre.

We are now calling for submissions from students and recent graduates (within three years) for positions in 2020. At this time, we don’t know how many positions are available until total funding is confirmed.  The intent of this program is to give candidates a chance to sit down with our Artistic Producer, Will Brooks, to begin a connection with the company, to discuss the work that would best suit the candidate’s educational and professional development, and for the successful candidates to gain the experience in a professional environment.

There is the ability to apply for both existing positions in the organization as well as positions created to suit the needs of successful candidates.  Areas can include but are not limited to:

  • Design Assistantship
  • Acting
  • Administration and Management
  • Musician
  • Props Assistantship
  • Stage Management Apprentice
  • Backstage
  • Wardrobe
  • Front of House
  • Box Office
  • Dramaturgy and research
  • Assistant Direction
  • Production Management Assistantship
  • Festival Management

We highly encourage diversity and gender parity in submissions and have plans to serve these voices.

To apply, please forward your resume and headshot (or portfolio) as is appropriate to your focus.  Also include a letter detailing the positions and work focus you are interested in and how that experience will further your artistic, educational, and professional goals.  Please send all of this in PDF format to ap@shakespearesask.com

We will endeavor to meet with all applicants September 25th – 27th  at the John Mitchell Building.  Performers will be required to present two monologues with at least one being Shakespeare.

Rehearsals start date will be in the month of May and show dates are TBA.  Many of the positions will begin work in the winter as our processes are underway.
