General Auditions

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan will be holding General Auditions for the 2018 season and beyond in Saskatoon on November 20 and 21, 2017.  We are accepting resumes and headshots from actors interested in auditioning for our 2018 festival productions of The Merry Wives of Windsor and Hamlet as well as Titus Andronicus (Titus A...puppet revenge in partnership with Stumped Productions.)

With a mandate to celebrate Saskatchewan artists we are particularly interested in hearing from artists living in or with deep roots in Saskatchewan.  We also highly encourage diversity and gender parity in submissions and have plans to serve these voices.  For our production of Titus we are also keen to see artists with Puppeteering skills.

Artists whose work is familiar to Artistic Producer Will Brooks are encouraged to submit and express interest but may not be required to audition.  Artists who have worked with the festival recently are always encouraged to get in touch to keep us informed of their particular artistic interests.

As part of our submissions we are also interested in hearing from directors, designers, and other artists who have interest in working with us.  Meetings and discussions for these submissions may not be held at the same time as the generals but can be arranged on an ad hoc basis starting immediately.  Please note that decisions regarding directors and designers for 2018 take place early in the fall.

Please forward resumes and headshots in PDF format to

Only those artists receiving an audition will be contacted.

Rehearsals will begin June 1 and the shows will begin previews July 4 running through to August 19, 2018.

Submission deadline for actors is no later than September 29th at noon but artists are always encouraged to get in touch early.

Heather and David Foundation Apprenticeship Program

With the support of the Heather and David Foundation the University of Saskatchewan Drama Department and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan have the opportunity to engage in a program to hire University of Saskatchewan Greystone students and recent graduates as part of our festival.

In 2016 we were able to have six positions total in the areas of acting, stage management, design, music, wardrobe, and technical theatre.  In 2017, 4 positions in production management, design, acting, and music.

We are now calling for submissions from students and recent graduates (within three years) for positions in 2018.  We will be hiring a minimum of four positions each year.  The intent of this program is to give candidates a chance to sit down with our Artistic Producer to begin a connection with the company, to discuss the work that would best suit the candidate’s educational and professional development, and for the successful candidates to gain the experience in a professional environment.

There is the ability to apply for both existing positions in the organization as well as positions created to suit the needs of successful candidates.  Areas can include but are not limited to:

  • Design Assistantship
  • Acting
  • Puppeteering/Puppet building
  • Administration and Management
  • Musician
  • Props Assistantship
  • Stage Management Apprentice
  • Backstage

  • Front of House
  • Box Office
  • Dramaturgy and research
  • Assistant Direction
  • Production Management Assistantship

Productions for our 2018 season will feature Hamlet, Merry Wives of Windsor, and Titu Andronicus (with puppets).

We highly encourage diversity and gender parity in submissions and have plans to serve these voices.

To apply, please forward your resume and headshot (or portfolio) as is appropriate to your focus.  Also include a letter detailing the positions and work focus you are interested in and how that experience will further your artistic, educational, and professional goals.  Please send in PDF format to Will Brooks at

We will endeavor to meet with all applicants October 18-20.  Performers will be required to present two monologues with at least one being Shakespeare.  Those with puppeteering skills can choose to display those if they wish.

Rehearsals will begin June 1 and the shows will begin previews July 4 running through to August 19, 2018.  Many of the positions will begin work in the winter as our processes are underway.
